Nikola Martinoski house and gallery: overview

Nikola Martinoski house and gallery, Kruševo.
Kruševo has produced more than one artist the whole country claims. Nikola Martinoski, born here in 1903 into an Aromanian family, is regarded as a founder of contemporary Macedonian art. His home in Kruševo is now a gallery where a selection of his works is exhibited.
Fans often visit it on the same day as the Memorial House: two Aromanian sons of Kruševo, a painter and a singer, remembered a few streets apart.

Martinoski studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest, graduating in 1927, and spent 1927–1928 in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and the Académie Ranson. Back in Skopje he developed an expressionist style focused on social themes and, later, portraits. He helped establish the art gallery in Skopje that is now the National Gallery of Macedonia.
He died in Skopje in 1973 and left sixty-two of his paintings to Kruševo as a parting gift. In 2003 the National Gallery marked the centenary of his birth with an exhibition of works never shown before.

A small gallery with a permanent display. It suits a quiet hour rather than an event, though it occasionally features in cultural programmes in the town.
